Killarney and District Memorial Hospital
Original location – Pine Street, Killarney QLD 4373
In 1949 the Killarney RSL decided to erect a memorial to local veterans who lost their lives during WWII. A committee was formed and with funds from the RSL plus local donations they purchased and renovated what was previously a private hospital in Pine Street. The newly named Killarney and District Memorial Hospital was officially opened in June 1950. Read here.
When the hospital was first opened it was believed to be the first Queensland RSL Memorial to the Fallen in World War II.
In the late 1960’s the original hospital suffered major damaged during a severe storm. A new hospital was built in the adjoining Cedar Street, Killarney. It was later extended to include aged care facilities and is now called K-Life.
