NOTES : When William Henry Dyer of Kurumbul enlisted in Warwick on 11 January 1916 he was a forty-seven-year-old widower. One month later his eighteen-year-old son Henry Richard Dyer, also enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force.

On 31 May 1916 William embarked aboard the Suevic bound for overseas service. Taken on strength in England he proceeded to France on 19 October 1916. By 5th November he was admitted to hospital and transferred back to England suffering from rheumatism.

Chronic rheumatism forced the army to transport him back to Australia aboard the HT Ulysses which departed Plymouth on 13 February 1917. He was discharged Medically Unfit, on 23 May 1917.

His son Richard returned to Australia aboard the Balmoral Castle after having been wounded in action from a gun shot wound to the abdomen. He was discharged 3 May 1918.
