Stephen Fallon was the youngest son of Patrick and Catherine Fallon of Dalveen to enlist in the First World War. Stephen and two of his brothers joined the AIF during the 1914-1918 war. Despite Stephen being the youngest son to enlist, he was the first of the three brothers to do so. His brothers who enlisted were Michael Joseph Fallon 5385 and John Fallon 4787.

At the time he was working as an apprentice painter with Mr J C Sealey and living with his married sister, Mrs E L Cleary in Warwick as both of his parents were deceased.

Some confusion may arise with Stephen’s service number. Originally, he was issued with 406, this has been crossed out and 405 inserted below he original number. His service files are currently listed under the number 61 as this number was written above the crossed out 406. However, when one looks at his service file in depth, the service number on all correspondence refers to Service Number 405. Units he was attached to include the 5th and 3rd Light Horse Regiments and the 15th Battalion.

While on leave in England on December 24, 1917, Stephen married Charlotte Nunn at St Andrew’s Church, London. In April 1917 the doctors diagnosed he was suffering from tachycardia or heart disease and he was returned to Australia April 21, 1918.
