NOTES :

Edward Thomas Garvis was born in Warwick and was the son of Thomas William and Annie Garvis (nee Pemberton). Prior to his enlistment, Edward was working in the employ of Mr. H. Brookes, Glentanner of Dalveen as a station hand.

In May 1917, he enlisted under the name Edwin Thomas Garvis and embarked aboard the Boonah enroute to France. An article in the Warwick Examiner and Times, dated September 25, 1918 reported that while on the front line in France, he suffered two attacks of trench feet before being severely gassed. Authorities notified his mother of his gassing and then his discharge from hospital in France on September 17, 1918.

Dorothy Elizabeth Hawkins married Edward Thomas Garvis on July 14, 1945. He is buried in Millmerran under the name Thomas Edward Garvis however his death is registered as Edward Thomas Garvis.

Levi Garvis, his younger brother also enlisted in World War One, however after three months he was discharged at his own request to go home to work his farm.

Two nephews both from Warwick, sons of his older brother Frederick Garvis enlisted in World War Two. They were George Gerard Garvis Q63629 and James Bernard Garvis QX41928.
