NOTES : HANSEN, Stewart Byron and his brother HANSEN, Ivan Wilbur 8207 both enlisted for service in the Second World War.
Their parents were Herman Julian and Annie Josephine Hansen [nee Gillam] of Wood Street Warwick.
Stewart served on Thursday Island and Papua New Guinea. In 1944 while still serving, he married Mary Agnes Winifred Hansen. He returned to Australia for discharge on 12th October 1945.
After the war, Stewart went on to raise his family and became a valued member of the community. He worked and volunteered with many of the local community groups including the Show Society, Rodeo Committee, Red Cross and Akooramak.
In 1994 he received the Australia Day Citizen Award and in 2001 received recognition from Alooramak in recognition of his generous contribution to the Residents over many years.
