NOTES : While still living in England, Charles became a member of the 1st Royal Sussex Regiment and fought in the South Africia Boer War as a Lance Corporal, Service No. 7133.

He moved to Australia in 1911 and married Gwendoline Cook. At the time of his enlistment in the Second World War, they were living at Waterworks Road, Mill Hill, Warwick. In later life they moved to Dragon Street, Warwick.

He was awarded the Queen’s Medal South Africa and the Australian Service Medal for his service.

In 1954, Charles was one of three Warwick Boer War veterans to be sent to Brisbane to see the Queen. Read newspaper article here.
