NOTES :  John Thomas Scandrett was born in the town of Bodenham, Herefordshire in England. He migrated to Australia and made his living as a farmer in the Yelarbon region.

The Great War was nearing its third year when John decided to enlist. He travelled to Toowoomba and undertook a medical examination which cleared him for entrance into the Australia Imperial Forces on 2 June 1917.

He sailed from Australia with the 10th Reinforcements aboard A7 Medic in August 1917 bound for England. During his time overseas he was a member of a number of units including 49th, 25th and the 26th Battalions and he was also posted to AIF Headquarters for a short time before re-joining the 26th Battalion.

At the end of the war, John embarked aboard the HT Mahia for his return to Australia on 4 June 1919. Details of his life, death and burial after his return have not yet come to light.

NOTE: The Yelarbon War Memorial has his name registered as SCANDRIFF, J F. However, after careful research, I can confirm no one with the spelling of the surname SCANDRIFF fought in the First World War and the spelling should have been SCANDRETT, J T.
