NOTES : Esmond was the son of Henri Macquarie and Katherine Serisier who owned a small mixed farm at Toolburra. There they ran a herd of dairy cows, 25 acres of grapes and various other crops.
His high schooling was attained at the Warwick State High School. During his time there, Esmond was regarded as keen sportsman.
After completing his studies, he gained entrance to Duntroon Royal Military College graduating from there in 1927. He was posted to India in 1929 as a Lieutenant. Before leaving Australia, he married Margaret Nicol on August 27, 1929 at St Mary’s Cathedral, West Perth.
On returning to Australia, he received the rank of Captain while adjutant of the 15 Light Horse Regiment at Lismore. By July 1942 he had been promoted to Lt Col and went on to receive an MID.
He died of a heart attack at his home in East St Kilda.
