NOTES : Born in Warwick and educated at Central State School and Warwick State High School, Herbert or “Bart” Sims was the son of Herbert and Betsy Sims of Denham Street Warwick. He was a member of the Scouting Movement and his scouting name war Corbie Dhu “Black Crow”.
Employed as a journalist at the Allora Guardian where he also performed editing Bart used Corbie Dhu as his nom-de-plume. While working at Allora, Bart wrote a number of articles for the National Parks Association and published two books.
He married Inez Audrey Maud Sims and lived in Denham Street, Warwick where he worked at the Warwick Daily News.
On March 3, 1941 he enlisted in the RAAF and was posted to Scampton. While engaged in a conversion training exercise his aircraft crashed at Predannack airfield and all the crew were killed.
Bert was survived by his wife and three year old son.
