NOTES : John was the son of Nicholas and Isabella Ellen Tweedie of Myall Avenue, Warwick. He attended Warwick Central State School before going on to study at Warwick State High School.

John Louis Tweedie was the first Warwick State High School student known to have enlisted at the outbreak of WWII. He was just nineteen years of age at the time.

John enlisted and after his initial training in Australia, he spent time in England, before serving in Syria in the Middle East and Papua New Guinea.

It was while he was stationed in Papua New Guinea on September 15, 1942, that John was to lose his life.

He was part of one of the groups who were sent out at first light in an endeavour to approach Ioribaiwa Ridge.

John was killed while trying to silence a Japanese machine gun.
