NOTES :

John James Burns was the eldest son of Thomas Phillip and Margaret Burns to enlist in the First World War in 1915. Younger brothers Thomas Francis Burns 4991 and William Henry Burns 719 also enlisted for war service. Sadly William was killed in action.

John was living and working as a labourer around the Augathella, Charleville area at the time of his enlistment. As a member of the 7th Field Artillery Brigade, he saw action in France.

Upon his return to Australia, John once again returned to the outback. John died while living at Woorina Station, Camooweal on Apri1 2, 1946. He is buried in the Mount Isa Cemetery.
