Joseph Herman Christopher Greer was born in Stanthorpe on April 18, 1884 to Joseph and Louisa Christina Wilhelmina Greer (nee Noey).

It was some eight months after his younger brother, George Henry Greer 5339 had enlisted that Joseph left his farm in Warwick to enlist in October 1916. On his enlistment papers he listed his name as Joseph Herman Christy Greer, this may have been because he was known to everyone as Christy. His mother Lousia Christine Burns, who had remarried after the death of his father, was listed as his next of kin. At the time, Louisa was living at Cannon Creek via Dalveen.

After a spell in an isolaton camp, Joseph eventually joined his regiment in Egypt in 1917. Confirmation of his promotion to Farrier Corporal was confirmed in late 1918. Back home, The Queenslander newspaper dated April 12, 1919, listed 3134 F-Cpt. J.H.C. Greer, 2nd L.H., W’wick as returning home from overseas service.

Gertrude Catherine Minnie Gimm married George on February 11, 1920. Joseph’s brother George Henry later married Gerturde’s sister Rossie May Gimm in 1924. Joseph returned to Warwick and live there for the rest of his life.
