NOTES :  Robert George Newlands was born in Boggabilla, New South Wales on 22 November 1875 to John and Eliza Matilda Newlands (nee Pooler).

A two year veteran of the Boer War, Robert’s record states: Newlands, Robert George 884 Private, NSW Imperial Bushmen. Sergeant April 25, 1901; Distinguished Conduct in Field. C. in C.s despatches May 8, 1901 (Murray).

Charlotte Matilda White married Robert in Brisbane on December 7, 1904. They moved around before they settled on their property, The Pines at Yelarbon. Having previously served with distinction, it was therefore not surprising that at the age of 42, Robert once again joined in the new war effort. By this time he was a grazier with the family property being located at Dalveen. Our research indicates, Robert was the last man known to have enlisted from the Dalveen district during the First World War.

His youngest brother, 21 year old Roy Dudley Newlands 3214 had already enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on July 22, 1916.

Upon Roberts return from the war, the family moved to Thulimbah for a period before finally residing at their property, The Crest at Cottonvale.
