NOTES :

William Gordon Ryan born in Pittsworth, Queensland was the second son of Edward Timothy Stephen and Margaret Ryan (nee Hamilton).

The family were living at Cherry Gully, Dalveen when William and his younger brother Robert Thomas Ryan 1724 enlisted together in Warwick on January 3, 1916. Both men were members of the 11th Light Horse Regiment in Egypt.

William returned in Australia in August 1919 and married Mary (May) Saunders on April 17, 1922.

Upon his return to civilian life, William joined the Railways, initially working as a fettler and later as a ganger. Because of his work the family were required to move a number of time. They spent time in Cecil Plains, Peachy and Muldu before eventually settling in Warwick.
