NOTES :

David Doyle was born in England to Daniel Joseph and Margaret Doyle nee Donovan. The family moved to Australia and settled at Dalveen for a time. At the time of his enlistment in the First World War he listed his father Daniel Doyle of Deuchar as his next of kin. David worked as a shunter for the Queensland Government Railways and enlisted in Brisbane September 9, 1915.

His brothers Charles James Doyle 2306 and Cornelius James Doyle 5069 also enlisted in the AIF.

His battalion embarked for active service from Brisbane aboard the Boonah for France in October 1916 disembarking at Plymouth, England in January 1917. His unit proceeded overseas to France in early December 1917 and David was taken on strength with the 41st Battalion.

In May 1918, David was wounded in action from shell gas poisoning and invalided to England and received treatment at both the Military Hospital at Devonport in June 1918 and the No. 3 A.A. Hospital at Dartford in July 1918.

After his recovery, he once again proceeded overseas for France in August 1918. He returned to Australia aboard the Themistocles and was discharged from the AIF on September 9, 1919 at Brisbane.
