NOTES :

George Augustus Herbert Moss who was born in Sydney on April 17, 1878, was the eldest son of George Saville Moss and Caroline Elizabeth Moss (nee Bullock). The family moved to Queensland and settled for a period at Dalveen. In June 1915 George married Grace Harriett Adelaide Lee.

On May 18, 1916, while working as a school teacher at Talgai West, he offered his services to the army. Being accepted but failing his medical because of varicose veins, he undertook an operation to remove them. The following article appeared in the Warwick Examiner and Times dated June 10, 1916 under the Dalveen news column.

SAD DEATH – Less than a month since I commented on the fact of Mr G. H. Moss, being the third son of Mr. G. S. Moss, of Curriconna, Dalveen, to enlist for active service, Mr Moss, who had been school teaching at Talgai West, on offering his services was accepted, and went into a Brisbane hospital to have a varicose vein removed from his leg. the operation was successfully performed and for a couple of days the patient to all intents and purposes apppeared to be doing well. On Thursday last, however, he passed away very suddenly leaving a young wife, infant daughter, father, mother, two brothers (at the front) and several sisters to mourn his loss. The internment took place in the Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane.

The two brothers mentioned in the article were Darrell Vivian Moss 130, and Herbert Saville Moss 40. Thankfully the two remaining brothers returned home to their family at the end of the hostilities.
