NOTES :

Herbert Saville Moss was born on March 26, 1880 in MacDonaldtown, New South Wales. His parents were George Saville and Caroline Elizabeth Moss (nee Bullock). By the turn of the century the family had moved to Dalveen in Queensland. Initially he started work as an apprentice school teacher before trying his hand at being a miner.

Herbert was the first of the Moss brothers to enlist during the First World War. He enlisted on October 8, 1914 followed by brothers Darrell Vivian Moss 130 on December 4, 1915 and George Augustus Herbert Moss on April 15, 1916.

Dorothy Mabel Evelyn Hughes married Herbert upon his return from service in 1919. With the shortage of school teachers Herbert returned to his career as a school teacher and taught in the Stanthorpe district for sometime.

During the Second World War, his youngest child and only son Anthony Herbert Moss 421368 enlisted in the RAAF and was killed in action over El Alamein, Egypt in 1944.
